Homemade Hoagie Rolls

Makes 6 small hoagies or 2 large French-style sandwich rolls

Ingredients:

3 tsp Active dry yeast

1 C water

4.5 tsp white sugar

2 tsp salt

3 Tbsp oil

3 C All-purpose flour

1 egg yolk plus a splash of water to glaze dough before baking


Directions:

  1. Dissolve water and portion of sugar in yeast

  2. Add all other ingredients into large bowl. Once yeast has bloomed, add to dry mixture

  3. Knead for 5 minutes, then let rest for 5-10 minutes

  4. Let rise for 60 minutes, punch down dough, and let rise again for 30 minutes

  5. Portion into 6 pieces, roll flat and then into hoagie rolls. Let rise for 30-40 minutes

  6. Preheat oven to 375 degrees

  7. Make 3 slits into dough and cover with egg wash

  8. Bake for 20 min
